Day to day Practical Philosophy for a happier, more fulfilling life. The Kingston Branch of The School of Economic Science runs courses in "Practical Philosophy" in the Kingston & Richmond area and you are warmly invited to attend one of our 10 week introductory courses which start on 6th & 7th October 2010.
What is a "Practical Philosophy" course? It is an enjoyable and fulfilling course in timeless practical wisdom and students often welcome the peace and calm it can bring to a modern hectic lifestyle. Philosophy means the love of wisdom and applies to all people for all time, including people like you and me. It is not an academic study; so we call it "Practical" Philosophy as it is mainly practical and students explore great philosophical principles based on personal experience.
What kind of Philosophy is it? The "Practical Philosophy" course is inspired by the philosophy of Advaita (Non-duality or Oneness), and embraces a wide range of philosophers, thinkers and writers. It has survived through an unbroken tradition passing from teacher to student since time immemorial.
Who is it for? Everyone, the courses are open to all including all age groups, cultures and religions or no religion. No prior knowledge is required.
How might I benefit? You may get to know yourself better and enjoy yourself more. You will enjoy the good company of like-minded people. Learning to live fully in the present moment is a significant benefit. Some students attend just for one term and others stay for many years to deepen their study, attend further classes, practise meditation and apply the lessons of philosophy in daily life.
“The general uplift in society remains the immediate aim, while help on the way of liberation remains the ultimate aim” Shantananda Saraswati (renowned teacher of Advaita now deceased).
